This morning @adn40 from Mexico reports
#QUOTE Of 2,400 migrants who managed to enter Mexico, at least 1,000 seek assisted return to Honduras, while the rest are in migratory stations carrying out procedures to apply for asylum and work.
Also on twitter video from the same, A new conference this morning included, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (infogalactic), the minster of External Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, (infogalactic), and Olga Sánchez Cordero (infogalactic). They stressed that Mexico will protect the Human Rights of the migrants. In addition, all migrants that enter in an “orderly and regular” manner will be processed – others will be immediately removed.
To be clear, because of the large numbers – 1000+ at the western border, those migrants will be taken to migrant shelter and processed. The same will happened to the 500+ at the eastern border.
Also from yesterday, ~Mexico is not a transit country~ as stated by the Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez Cordero. In addition, the migrants have been offered residence cards and jobs, but they will not be allowed to travel North to the USA. At this point, we do not know who has organized this caravan — that appears to have started in Honduras, but they are being openly assisted by several “open borders” groups.
Lastly, @albertopradilla points to an official press release by #INM that the first 110 migrants have been flown back to Honduras. He states,
Mexico is already deporting the migrants whom it requested to enter its territory in an orderly manner by Tabasco.
To be clear, the news release states those “returned assistance of those persons origination from Honduras.”
